The Airing of Grievances is the first studio album by American punk rock band Titus Andronicus, released on the Troubleman Unlimited record label on April 14, 2008. The album combines elements of punk rock, shoegaze, and lo-fi music. It was reissued on January 20, 2009 on XL Recordings. The Airing of Grievances. Troubleman Unlimited. Before writing the bulk of his legendary canon of plays and sonnets, William Shakespeare penned the charmingly flawed revenge tragedy Titus Andronicus. Due to its laughable bombast and over-the-top violence, its influence on contemporary culture has emerged mainly in dark comedies like Sweeney Todd or "South Park", and many Shakespeare scholars still balk at seriously analyzing the work. Of course, all these factors make the play a perfect moniker for an indie band as violent, overblown, and irreverent as Glen Rock, New Jersey's Titus Andronicus.

Complete your Titus Andronicus collection. Still in a punk mode we turn our attention back to Titus Andronicus with their first album, The Airing Of Grievances (2008). It’s interesting to compare this album to their 2015 release, The Most Lamentable Tragedy. On this first album the band is much rawer and the recording less polished. This works well for a punk recording. You can tell from the track titles and song lyrics that the band members are not dullards. I quite like intellectual punk-music that makes you think. On the band’s blog they state Titus Andronicus take their name from a minor Shakespearean tragedy, not, as many people.

'Titus Andronicus'), or, 'How's about slowing this one down so it sounds like Arcade Fire literally playing a funeral march?' (‘No Future Pt. 1'. But put to the jubilant, ramshackle music this diarising becomes The Airing Of Grievances: a brilliant record that says precisely, ‘This is what exactly what being young feels like, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's so awful one has to write a song.
