XIT" stands for "crossing of Indian Tribes", according to Tom Bee. Their music often addresses themes of historic and contemporary Native American issues. Their initial recording, 1972's Plight of the Redman, is a concept album about the changes in Native American life since the arrival of Columbus. Plight of the Redman, 1972. Silent Warrior, 1973. Entrance, 1974 (Lincoln Street Exit; early work from the sixties). Rainbow Rider, 1976 (A Firedrum Production, Produced & Directed By Tom Bee).

As is evident on Plight Of The Redman by Xit, a band of Native Americans from Albuquerque, NM. Originally released on the Rare Earth label in 1972, the title explains the consciousness and relevancy of the music. Apocalyptic tom tom beats and eerie chants introduce "Beginning," more of the same with "Nihaa Shil Hozho" a seven minute odyssey that was the only single released from this album in the 70's. It's odd that "I Was Raised" never was a single, it's commercial with a heavybottom Motown beat, a strong lead, and infectious lyrics.
